Course Description: This course examines labor economics, presents basic facts about the labor market as well as economic theories required to analyze these facts. Topics include labor market participation, employment/unemployment, and wages; labor supply, labor demand, and its equilibrium; involuntary unemployment. The later part of the course goes into more detail on the Japanese labor market system including regular and non-regular workers, minimum wages, unemployment insurance, impact of aging and declining population, immigration, and labor unions. Assessment: Assignments given during the class (40%), and final exam (60%).
