Course Description: This course examines the process of identity formation and various identity issues through the lenses of communication, media, education and psychology. The course presents contemporary theories of self and identity in a multicultural society from psychological and other perspectives; the application of such theories and concepts to our lives with an eye toward promoting well-being at the individual and group levels; how major changes in digital media have led to redefining self and identity, and thus transforming learning patterns and our sense of well-being; and the implications of gender and identity issues in various media including television, video games, advertisements, soap operas, and social media. Assessment: group case analysis, in-class assignment, final test, attendance and participation.
