Course Description: This course studies examples of environmental pollution looking at important natural processes in different spheres of the environment, i.e. the atmosphere (air), the hydrosphere (water) and the terrestrial environment (soil / land). The course studies how these processes in the different spheres affect the environment, and also how human activity alters these processes and causes pollution problems as well as options to control or reduce these pollution problems. Topics covered include air pollution, global warming and greenhouse gas emissions, environmentally sustainable energy production, water pollution and bioremediation. The course consists of lectures, group work and class discussions. Assessment: final exam, written report, group work.
