Course Description: This course studies art in Ghana from 2000 BC to the present. Topics include various concepts, methods, and theories of art history; the origins and development of African art history; the contributions of historians, anthropologists, archaeologists, and artists to the study of Ghanaian art history; the different eras of Ghana's art history and regional art traditions; and recent traditional and popular arts. Texts include J. R. Anquandah, DISCOVERING GHANA'S PAST and THE FORGOTTEN CIVILIZATION OF KOMLAND; W. Emery, ARCHAIC EGYPT; F. Boaz, PRIMITIVE ART; J.
