Course Description: This course studies global and national concerns regarding problems of environmental degradation and pollution, from the ecological perspective: causes of environmental degradation; solutions to restore ecological equilibrium; major environmental concerns of Africa; selected issues (tropical deforestation, greenhouse phenomenon, wet lands degradation, soil erosion); national issues related to land management, forestry and wildlife, water management, marine and coastal ecosystems, industrial pollution, mining, hazardous chemicals, and human settlements; Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) techniques. The course includes required field visits.
