Course Description: This course introduces notions in studying literature and literary works. The course draws on a wide variety of literary references specifically devoted to this subject, with particular attention paid to structures and techniques of literary works in the world. The course also looks at how so-called ‘classics’ can be defined according to traditional western criteria. In addition, the extent to which these inner values have been lost or left intact by the fundamental changes in the socio-historical contexts is discussed. Assessment: midterm (20%), final (20%), home assignments (30%), attendance and participation (30%).
