Topics: methodologies and the ancient Near East; the Gilgamesh epic, Genesis, and Hammurabi; classical Athens, Herodotus and the Persian Wars; life in the Polis and the end of the Classical Age; the Hellenistic Age and Hellenizing efforts; early Roman age; Roman Republic; social and political crises in the Roman Republic (133-31 BC); Augustus and the restoration of peace; early Middle Ages, Christianity and the failure of empire building.
