Course Description:
The lecture gives an introductory overview of contemporary political theories. Starting from the assumption that political science is a normative and empirical social science, descriptive theories are examined in detail. This is done in a manner which favors the systematic overview, rather than the historical. Prior knowledge of the history of political ideas is helpful, though not necessary. Possible topics and authors to be explored include Schumpeter and Elite Theory, Theories of Political Economy, Marxism and Neo-Marxism, Post-Structuralism, and Feminist Theory.
