Course Description: The course provides a study of the principles of biodiversity and conservation. It examines the definitions, indicators, and benefits of biodiversity (species, genetics, and ecosystem levels), patterns of diversity, coastal biodiversity of Ghana, major threats to biodiversity in marine ecosystems, state of the world's ocean and fish conservation, conservation and valuation of aquatic resources (protected areas, heritage sites, Ramsar sites, etc.), and biodiversity-related conventions. The course also looks at the relationship between biodiversity and climate change, including its impact on aquatic biodiversity and marine life. National case studies of institutional and legislative framework for biodiversity conservation are examined.
