Course Description: This course analyzes human rights violations that occurred during Latin American dictatorships of the 1970s, as a specific tool to erase the leftist challenge to ruling classes across the continent. It discusses state responsibility for gross human rights violations and the different forms of justice both at national and international levels. This courses examines the influence of Latin American social movements in the search for justice, truth, and memory. It focuses on the Argentine experience but includes further examples from other Southern Cone countries.
