Course Description: This course introduces the methods of anthropological field research and ethnographic documentary film making and photography. This course offers a survey of the major trends in the history of ethnographic film in the West. Students read in the theory of ethnographic documentary film and carry out an original field research and film production project, to be presented to the whole class in July. Students need to provide their own camera and computer equipment for filming. Those who are unable to produce a film, or who prefer to work with still images, have the option of a PowerPoint presentation with photography and sound.
