Course Description: This course looks at the different economic development courses of the two Koreas, their current situation, and the challenges their economies are facing. The course requires knowledge of basic economic concepts such as GDP, inflation, unemployment, interest rate, and etc. Those economic terminologies are explained by the instructor if necessary. After taking this course for one semester, students are expected to better understand the economic issues related to North and South Korea reported in various media sources such as newspapers, news magazines, TV news programs, and etc. Text: KOREA'S PLACE IN THE SUN: A MODERN HISTORY by Bruce Cumings. Assessment: Final exam (60%), group presentation (40%).
