Course Description: Graph theory provides a basis for computational sciences, financial engineering, chemistry, and epidemiology, among many other disciplines. A main reason for the importance of the theory is that it works to remove non-essential information from huge information given in the form of complex data so that the system is represented in a simple form. The course provides an introduction to the graph theory presenting a lot of examples.Topics include basic objects in the graph theory including graphs, paths, cycles and trees, as well as some important algorithms. Textk: FIRST COURSE IN GRAPH THEORY by G. Chartrand and P. Zhang. Assessment: Midterm exam (40%), final exam (40%), attendance and participation (20%).
