Course Description: This course in international trade is based on introductory microeconomics. The course covers the following topics: the main reasons for trade, trade patterns, trade and income distribution, FDI and outsourcing, immigration, trade policy instruments, WTO and the multilateral trading system. The course is to provide an introduction to the theory of international trade as well as international trade policy and to demonstrate the relevance of the theory in the analysis of existing patterns of international trade and what determines them, the conduct of trade policy and the economic implications of international trade and trade policy both for individual economies such as Japan and the wider international community. Text: INTERNATIONAL TRADE by John McLaren. Assessment: Midterm exam (30%) and final exam (70%).
