Course Description: The course explores the role, purpose, and function of theory and theoretical frameworks in social service professions. It investigates the community and the family as two fundamental social systems in a person's life. The course applies Systems theory to issues of families, vulnerable children, and substance abuse and introduces intervention strategies for these issues. Students develop skills in data gathering and recording for assessment purposes. Assessment: coursework (50%) and one two-hour final examination (50%).
