Course Description: This course looks at the emergence and development of art over time and geographical space. It presents an overview of human art production from, amongst others, Upper Palaeolithic Africa, Byzantium, Classical Greece, 19th- and 20th-century West Africa, Renaissance Europe, Ancient and medieval Asia as well as comparative material from 20th and 21st century global production. The course focuses on the development of skills required to analyze and contextualize artwork. Assessment: course work (50%) and final exam (50%).
