Course Description: This course introduces areas of psychology and sociology relevant to health and wellbeing. It provides sociological tools (covering both theory and method) useful for understanding and practicing in health and wellbeing. It also introduces the principles and applications of psychology as they pertain to these areas. Students develop a "sociological imagination," a quality of mind that is used to prompt students to question common-sense assumptions regarding health and wellbeing. Students also gain familiarity with the major paradigms and methodological approaches of contemporary psychology and develop applications of psychological theory to specific health issues in their major area of study.
