Course Description: This course offers a study of gender and ethnicity in relation to migration in Latin America. The course applies theories and methods of cultural anthropological research to transnational migration. The course utilizes ethnographies to discuss the links of transnational migration, gender, and ethnicity in Latin America. The course reviews ethnographic studies on immigrants from different Latin American countries and addresses topics including the link between gender roles and ethnic identities of indigenous migrants, as well as the feminization of migration, as exemplified by domestic workers and sex workers.
