Course Description:
This course offers a study of the fundamental notions of romantic writing and imagery, such as the hieroglyph, the arabesque, the ornament, and the allegory. The course examines how the romantic character concept has influenced the theories of scripture and its “difference” in the twentieth century. The course includes close readings of canonical texts of Romanticism, and discussions of artistic positions of the era and approaches to the understanding of recent theories.
