Course Description: This course analyzes various social, economic, and political issues in order to examine the dynamics of contemporary Korean society. The course explores selected key concepts and debates within the social sciences including culture, gender, family, industrialization, the role of government, class and stratification, corporate governance, economic development, democratization, welfare and social policy, civil society, social movements, and globalization. Students discuss how the social changes have been shaping Korea, but also how Korea and Koreans have actively responded to them.
