Course Description: In this course students write well-organized passages of approximately 600 characters in length. They write simple reports on topics familiar to them as well as abstract topics. The course studies differences between written and spoken language and composition structures. The course emphasizes the understanding of sentence patterns and vocabulary. Assessment: attendance and class participation (10%), and quizzes and composition homework (60%), and a final report assignment (30%). Note: Intermediate Japanese language levels at the host university are comparable to UC upper-division language courses.
