Course Description: This course provides a theoretical background to the scientific basis of the pathogenesis of disease. Areas covered in theoretical modules include tissue responses to exogenous factors, adaptive responses to foreign agents, cardiovascular/pulmonary/gut responses to disease, forensic science, neuropathology, and cancer. Students learn the fundamental biological mechanisms governing disease pathogenesis in human beings; explore basic concepts of the pathogenesis, natural history, and complications of common human diseases; demonstrate and exemplify differences between normality and disease; and explain cellular aspects of certain pathological processes.
