Course Description: This course covers key elements of building services and sustainability on both a residential and commercial scale. It covers the basic terminology and concepts behind providing comfortable and effectively functioning buildings in terms of sun, envelope, services (water, waste, gas, electricity, data, and fire protection), heating and cooling, air quality, acoustics, and vertical transport. Utilizing the sustainability tools being used in the industry such as FirstRate, Accurate, NABERS, and Green Star, students are given a framework in which to understand how buildings perform, as well as their impact on the environment. Students are also introduced to modeling software that enables them to carry out performance analysis of initial designs.
