Course Description: This course offers a study in the essentials in micro- and macroeconomics for non-majors who have no background in the discipline of economics and do not intend to continue studying economics intensively in the future. Students should have an interest in general economic issues. The course discusses topics including fundamental concepts, theories, models, and disciplinary vocabulary that are used in economics as a scientific discipline; the discipline of economics within the wider field of the social sciences; and a limited history of economic thought. The course focuses on mainstream economics, both micro and macro. This beginner course does not utilize calculus, and often the disciplinary vocabulary and some of the elementary theories and models are visualized in graphs. The course connects topics to real-life in order to develop critical thinking in economics.
