Course Description: This course introduce French Literature in a historical and a thematic perspective (from the Middle Ages to the 21st C.). It also explores the relationship between literature and images (be it painting, photography and/or cinema). Thereby, the course questions the meaning of a "national culture" in a context of globalization. Both fiction and non-fiction works are read, including works of philosophy and human sciences. Text: John D. Lyons, FRENCH LITERATURE: A VERY SHORT INTRODUCTION; and other materials provided in class. Assessment: active participation, quizzes, group work.
