Course Description: This is a comparative study of educational aims and systems in numerous national and societal contexts. The course covers various areas of education, such as educational systems and curricula, teacher professionalism, pedagogy, gender equality in education, and the growing global impact of cross-national achievement data. The course also considers the implications of national culture and global discourse in educational goals, and examines how education responds to changes within society, demographic transformations, and financial constraints. Readings will be the basis for lectures and a springboard for class discussion and will precede the lecture.
