Course Description: This course focuses on the viewpoint, nurturing life through nurturing the nature. Health care is usually called Yangshen (means nurturing life) in Chinese. Health can be maintained by nurturing life, namely protecting or repairing the self-healing and self-repairing power of the body. It introduces the natural way of keeping fit to modern people. Yangshen is not only a technical artifice, but also an attitude and philosophy of life. It is the refined core in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Most of the famous TCM doctors enjoyed both longevity and a peaceful and happy mood. First, the course gives brief introduction about the basic knowledge of TCM and related traditional Chinese culture, and then systematically discusses the principles of Yangshen of TCM and scientific explanation of measures of treating and preventing diseases. The contents include: mental Yangshen, food Yangshen, sex Yangshen, sports Yangshen, herbal drug Yangshen, Jinluo Yangshen, constitutional Yangshen. The course expounds the complicated and mysterious theories by quoting daily life examples, clinical cases, thus makes the course to be easily understood and thus very popular in students. Assessment: Attendance (20%), Quizzes(30%), Final paper(40%).
