Course Description: This course provides a comprehensive and systematic understanding of the basic theories of money and banking and lays a good foundation for the study of other courses in finance. Topics include: interest rate and its connotation; theory of asset demand; change of interest rate and its determinants; risk and term structure of interest rates; bank and its management; what is money; creation of multiple deposits; determinants of money supply; complete model of money supply; monetary policy tools of the central bank; structure and independence of the central bank; economic analysis of financial innovation; non-bank financial institutions; economic analysis of financial structure; and financial system. Assessment: written exam.
