Course Description: This course offers a general overview of journalism and communications in China, with a focus on Mainland China. It also addresses media in other parts of Greater China, including Hong Kong and Taiwan. The course analyzes the features, developments and impact of various media: print, TV, radio, online media, and social media like Weibo and Wechat. Based on an understanding of the development and current media landscape, the course takes a comparative look into the role of the media in Chinese society. It also examines how China is perceived in and outside China through the prism of the media, as well as how the outside world is covered by Chinese correspondents.
