Course Description: This course introduces the basic knowledge and fundamental concepts of Chinese ancient culture, including the evolution, heritage, and spread of the Chinese culture. The course evaluates the ancient tradition, recognizes the current situation and looks to the future objectively. First, the course explores the origin of ancient Chinese civilization and the characteristics of early state morphology; sorting out the historical context of ancient cultural development; and investigating cultural exchanges and ways of communication. Next the course looks at the uniqueness of Chinese ancient social economy and political structure: the administrative division, the official election, science and technology of ancient culture. The course examines the customs, festivals, weddings, funerals, diet, gardens and other specific cultural phenomenon of ancient China. The course also reviews the gains and losses of cultural studies since modern times and reflects on the modern circumstances of traditional culture.
