UC QTR Units - Division: 3.0 - Upper Division
Course Description: This course examines the chemical behavior of materials in engineering systems and the manipulation of these properties to increase performance. The course begins by examining the microscopic properties of materials and builds up to the evaluation of how these properties cause macroscopic phenomena in engineering systems. By the end of the term, students should attain a basic understanding of the linkage of materials properties and performance in relation to processing Text: M. F. Ashby and D. R. H. Jones, Engineering Materials 2, ELSEVIER. Assessment: Class participation and homework (30%), final exam (70%).
Language of Instruction: English
