Course Description: This is a graduate level course that is part of the Laurea Magistrale program. The course is intended for advanced level students only. Enrollment is by consent of the instructor. This course analyzes the role played by the European Union in world politics. Students analyze the historical evolution of the EU as a foreign policy actor; its current foreign policy system in terms of actors, policy-making, instruments, and budget; and the EU’s activity as donor of economic assistance, democracy promoter, and conflict resolution provider. Students also compare the EU with other regional organizations (Nafta, Mercosur, African Union, Asean and Eurasian Union). Assessment in the course is based on two written exams.
