Country - Partner Institution - Programs: Netherlands - Utrecht University - 'Utrecht Univ.'
UC Course SubjectMathematics
Number & Suffix: 102
Full UC Title: MATHEMATICAL STATISTICS
Transcript Title: MATHEMATICAL STATS
UC QTR Units - Division: 6.0 - Upper Division
Course Description: This lecture gives an introduction to the mathematical theory of statistics. In statistics, data are analyzed by assuming that they are the outcome of a (partly) unknown stochastic model. Mathematical statistics provides guidelines to obtain information about the stochastic models effectively as possible. In this way, information about the underlying real system is obtained. Emphasis is placed on the basic concepts and methods of statistics. In addition, examples and assignments are used to show how these basic concepts can be used in practice. Topics covered include: statistical model; sample; multivariate normal distribution; Bayesian treasures; prior and posterior distribution; convergence concepts; delta method; sufficient and complete statistics; areas of dependence; Fisher information; Cramer-Rao lower limit; keys; overruns; likelihood ratio test. Required prior knowledge: familiarity with the basic concepts of probability and basic knowledge analysis.
Language of Instruction: English
