Course Description: This course provides students with an introduction into European environmental and climate politics and policy. It discusses theories on European integration and the way they explain the emergence of environmental and climate policy. Attention is given to the institutional set up of the European Union and the actor constellations involved in policy-making. The course refers to the environmental policy cycle exploring the influence of different actor groups on the initiation, agenda setting, decision-making and implementation of European environmental policy. The course focuses on regulatory areas related to the environment, climate change, and energy policy. Students look at problems, debates, and decisions and compare political expectations and results.
