Course Description: The students learn the basics of crystallography (symmetry principles), crystal chemistry (bond types, structural models), special mineralogy (systematic of silicates) and crystal optics (polarization microscopy). Topics covered include: symmetries, morphology, stereographic projection (Wulff's mesh), crystal chemistry (bond types), crystal structures, polymorphism, phase transformations, nucleation and crystal growth, and special mineralogy (systematic silicates, selected non-silicates).
