Course Description: This course discusses central questions of aesthetic theory, such as what art is good for, what its contribution is, and how it is relevant. In dealing with relevant philosophical and art historical texts as well as selected artistic works and positions, the seminar not only wants to explore contested question of the uses of art. It also wants to familiarize students with various functional determinations of art and its critique, with evolutionary aesthetic considerations, according to which art is the continuation of sexual advocacy by other means, as well as with those who place art at the service of the moral education of man.
