Course Description: This course intensively reviews the basic conditions at the time of the authors Theodor Fontane, Wilhelm Raabe, Ferdinand von Saar, and Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach, as well as the concept of programmatic concept of realism from this time. "Realist" literature shows a strong reference to reality. This course discusses how to determine reality and references the theories of Rudolf Helmstetter who suggested, for the era in the second half of the nineteenth century, that the increasingly global information should be used to examine the characters in published media at the time.
