Course Description: This course focuses on a forward-looking examination of U.S. foreign policy while also considering some of the key events since World War II that have shaped today‚Äôs world. Historical events covered include U.S.-Russia, U.S.-China, and U.S.-Japan relations, nuclear issues as they concern Iran and North Korea, and prospects for war or peace in the Middle East. Through examining these events, students achieve an understanding of key events in U.S. foreign policy since 1945 and of current issues such as the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. They also develop ideas on how the events of previous decades influence the situation faced by the United States and the world today.
