Course Description: This course covers the way in which phonological theories provide understanding of phonological alternations in human language. A variety of recent phonological theories are introduced, including but not limited to, constraint-based theory, agreement-by-correspondence theory, and theory of phonology-syntax interface. The course presents how to analyze sound patterns using scientific and analytic methodology. Text: Elizabeth Zsiga, THE SOUNDS OF LANGUAGE. Assessment: participation and regular exercises, final paper. This is a writing courses; there will be three writing assignments.
