Course Description: The course has two parts, A and B. Students must take both parts. No partial credit possible. Maximum units for the course, A and B, are 10. The course covers the main theories and methodological approaches to the study of the family; the family institution and its cultural and structural transformations, with particular attention to relations between gender and relationships between generations; theoretical and empirical tools necessary to understand and analyze the main problems of today‚Äôs family, including those for analyzing "family responsibilities" and social services in Italy and in Europe; the main interpretative models of processes and educational institutions; areas of study and research in the field of sociology of education; methods and research techniques for analyzing processes and emerging training systems in the contemporary global society. Part B focuses on the sociology of education in a globalized world. Students explore the field of sociology of education and the main interpretative models applicable to educational processes and institutions. Particular attention is devoted to the relationship between education and society and its transformations. Finally, the course analyzes the main actors and agencies in the educational process: families and school. A special section of the course is devoted to the informal socialization process (peer and media group).
