Course Description: This course is designed to provide the theoretical essentials for understanding economic development and growth. It addresses the development problems of less developed countries and emphasizes various issues concerning Sub-Saharan Africa. The course covers traditional and the new economic views on development; common characteristics of the least developed countries and the basic diversities; obstacles to development; poverty and income distribution; models of growth such as classical, neoclassical, Marxian, and Harrod-Domar growth models; determinants of growth in Ghana.
