Course Description: This course focuses on social issues which are facing contemporary Japan, including population issues (low birthrates and care for the elderly), the changing nature of work (including equality for women in the workplace), politics, constitutional change in Japan and security issues in East Asia, immigration, and education. A further set of topics are generated from student interests with suggestions given in class.
