Course Description: This course is for students who have completed and mastered intermediate level studies. It aims to further develop students' vocabulary and expressions. Students learn advanced expressions with the appropriate usage of collocations of nouns and verbs, idioms and kango, words of Chinese origin. They analyze newspaper articles and scholarly reports, discuss the authors' message, and examine various written expressions such as kango and idioms with abstract meaning and figurative expressions. Assessment: class attendance and participation (20%), in-class presentation (10%), homework assignments (10%), mid-term exam (30%), and final exam (30%).
