Course Description: This course introduces fundamentals of computer organization and operation based on binary arithmetic and logic schemes including physical and mathematical design of computational circuits. Selected topics of information ethics and information technology trends are also touched upon. This is a comprehensive lecture course introducing to the basics of information science discipline. In particular, theoretical background and practical knowledge is provided to facilitate the understanding of computers as universal computational devices. The course teaches mathematical and physical aspects of electronic information processing technology, and develops a solid foundation for higher-level courses in theory of computation, computer architecture, and programming languages.
