Course Description: This lecture discusses ways to understand issues of war in modern and contemporary history from a perspective of comparative history by focusing on several topics concerning Japan's War in Asia during World War II and its aftermath including issues of war memory and reconciliation. This class teaches perspectives and methods of comparative history; shares basic knowledge about Japan's invasion and occupation of Southeast Asia during World War II and its aftermath including the issues of memory and reconciliation; learn not to be judgmental but to have a temperate discussion on the controversial issues of modern/contemporary history.
