Course Description: | The auto industry originated at the end of 19th century, when internal combustion engines were invented in Europe. It evolved to become a huge global industry throughout the 20th century. Now, one century later, it has reached another historical turning point with emergence of practical electric powertrains and AI technologies. Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of Daimler AG, describes it as a "CASE revolution". C stands for Connected, A for Autonomous, S for Shared, and E for Electric. In this series of lectures, we study the past and discuss the possibilities for the future of the auto industry from such perspectives as engineering development, marketing strategy, business management, and industrial state policy.
