Thus, it is important to understand natural environmental systems, physical and social causes of environmental problems, and strategies to manage these issues. Topics: Introduction to life and environmental sciences, the cell, bioenergetics, photosynthesis, genome and genetic variation, epigenetics, evolution, diversity of life, ecosystems, carbon cycle. Text: Morris et al., BIOLOGY: HOW LIFE WORKS. Assessment: Midterm exam (35%), final exam (35%), class participation (30%).
