Course Description: Following to Control Engineering I, key concepts and methodologies of control engineering are studied. In this class, “Modern Control Theory” based on the state-space model of the control systems is elaborated. The modern control theory utilizes the time-domain state-space representation, a mathematical model of a physical system as a set of input, output and state variables related by first-order differential equations. Based on the state-space models, time response, stability, controllability, and observability of the systems are discussed. Then, the design methodologies for state-feedback controllers and state observers are discussed. Optimum control, such as Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR), and the Kalman filter, known as Linear Quadratic Estimation (LQE), are included. Assessment: Final exams, midterm reports.
