Course Description: This is a seminar course offered by the Department of Economics with changing topics. This term focuses on language in thought and actions with a close reading of the text by S.I. Hayakawa and Alan R. Hayakawa, LANGUAGE IN THOUGHT IN ACTION. In addition to the close reading of the text, the course examines the following topics: language and survival; symbols; reports, inferences, judgements, contexts; the double task of language; the language of social cohesion; language of social control; classification; verbalization; and advertising.
