Course Description: The meaning of myth comprises stories of antiquity, the mysterious, and the unknown. Thus, it runs the risk of becoming a blanket term. This seminar explores the cultural dimension of myth: its relationship with language, science, and the arts, as well as its manifestations in literature, film, and architecture. Considering myth as a symbolic form, the course looks at the epistemological relevance of myth and its function in culture and society. With the support of different theories of myth from the disciplines of philosophy, cultural studies, and media studies, the course attempts to find answers to the basic questions of myth, how it manifests in contemporary culture, and what its function is.
